Rainbow flag creator reminisces

NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - The rainbow flag is a part of American history. Now it's part of the Museum of Modern Art's permanent collection. So who created the flag? His name is Gilbert Baker. The artist was 27 years old in 1978 and living in San Francisco when he designed the flag that would become the symbol of gay pride.

Baker turned to nature and the beauty of the rainbow. One of Baker's rainbow flags is now part of the permanent collection at MoMA. The original flag had 8 colors.

Baker showed us a fragment of the original hand-dyed cotton that had hot pink and turquois. But, baker removed the pink and turquois.

Baker described his creative process to Fox 5 and also talked about what it means to him that the flag became such a part of history.
