President-elect Trump's remarks about deportation were the main theme of a protest in Midtown.
Thousands took to the streets for a 5th straight day to voice their outrage over Trump's presidential victory.
They stood outside Trump International Hotel for hours. Then, they marched to Trump Tower.
Over 2500 immigrants and their advocates demonstrated against Trump's immigration policies and his plan to deport illegal immigrants with criminal records after he takes office.
“I don’t want to teach children in a world where they are frightened about what will happen to their families and their communities,” said one protestor in tears.
“We are here regardless of what he wants us to do. He cannot deport us all,” said another protestor.
The NYPD made sure the protests stayed peaceful as protestors marched up Central Park South sending a message that hatred won’t be tolerated.
“Native lives matter. Black lives matter. Refugees matter. Mexicans matter. Even though we have a face that doesn’t say that our lives matter, they do,” explained a protestor.
“Trump and Pence begin to form their administration, and we want to make sure they are taking a wide range of issues into account,” said another.
A few dozen protestors continued into the night.
“We made this happen, which we think is a good first step, but obviously, we have a lot more work to do to push back against the phobia, the racism, and the sexism that is Donald Trump and the agenda,” said one protestor.
Organizers tell Fox5 there have been no arrests during Sunday’s protests. Protestors did not mention where or when their next protest would be, but they did say it’s only the beginning.
