Police make arrest after discovery of corpse on NYC street

Police have made an arrest following the discovery of a woman's body in a shopping cart on a New York City street.

The NYPD said on Friday that 57-year-old Darryl Orr of the Bronx was charged with concealment of a corpse. The name of his lawyer was not immediately available.

The body of a woman was found on Wednesday night in the Bronx. Police said her remains were inside a cardboard box covered with a black flag.

It was found outside the Bonoful Grocery on E. 182nd St. in the University Heights section of the borough.

Witnesses said that the body had been in the cart for more than a day and people had been passing it by.  There were also reports that the body had a horrible rotting smell as police removed it.

Police were withholding the name of the 27-year-old woman pending family notification. The medical examiner was to determine a cause of death.

Orr, along with the concealment charge, also faces drug charges.
