The Tampa Police Department went the extra mile for a boy with spina bifida.

Ten-year-old Alexi thought he was going to a doctor's appointment Friday.

Instead, the destination was the Tampa Police Department, where officers gave Alexi a special tricycle.

A few months ago, Alexi and his family attended a bike safety rodeo, where Alexi's siblings all won bikes.

When Sergeant Colin McCoy saw Alexi crying over not having a bike of his own he knew something had to be done.

"Everybody on the squad was, 'Well, we gotta do something about it,'" he said.

Members of Tampa's Bike Patrol made phone calls and raised enough money for the special tricycle Alexi needs.

Both Alexi and his mom are thankful for what the officers did.
