Police: 1 injured in Miami Beach building collapse
MIAMI BEACH (AP) - Police say a 12-story building on Miami Beach -- that was slated to be torn down -- has collapsed, injuring one person.
Miami Beach police officials tweeted that the victim was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami on Monday morning. WSVN-TV reports the victim was a construction worker who is in critical condition in the trauma center.
“Once we got here, we found a victim in the middle of the street with severe injuries,” Miami Beach Fire Chief Virgil Fernandez told WSVN.
The 12-story Marlborough House was to be torn down for construction of a new oceanfront condominium, but police said in a tweet that the building had "a demolition permit, not an implosion permit."
Traffic remains closed in the area.
