NEW YORK (FOX5NY) - The famous Pepsi Cola sign on the banks of the East River in Queens is reportedly one step closer to landmark designation.
DNAinfo.com reports that the city's Landmarks Preservation Commission recommends making it a landmark and the official vote should come later this year.
The bright red 60-foot-tall Pepsi-Cola sign on the waterfront of Long Island City is a beloved landmark that can be seen from across the river in Manhattan.
At one time the sign was located at the site of a local soda bottling factory. The factory no longer exists but the popular sign, which dates to the 1930s, was preserved as part of a waterfront park called Gantry Plaza State Park.
