Officer who killed OSU attacker identified
Officer Alan Horujko is the police officer credited with shooting and killing the attacker at Ohio State University on Monday. At a news conference on Monday afternoon, authorities said that Horujko, 28, joined the Ohio State police force in January of 2015.
Ohio State Police Chief Craig Stone says it was fortunate there was a nearby gas leak that Horujko had gone to investigate. Stone says it helped position him to respond to the attack so quickly. The officer responded to the situation in under one minute and ended the threat one minute later, according to authorities.
Those injured in the attack included an Ohio State faculty member, four graduate students and three undergraduate students. A total of 11 people were hurt, one critically.
The suspect in the attack was identified as student Abdul Razak Ali Artan, 18, a Somali immigrant. After he plowed his vehicle into the crowd, officials said he got out of the vehicle and began attacking people with a butcher knife before he was shot and killed by Horujko.
