NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - A cop shot and wounded a man in Harlem Tuesday evening, authorities said.
Officers from the 28th Precinct responded to a call about a man with a gun at an apartment complex on West 114th Street, the NYPD said. A witness at the building told the cops that the gunman was on the fourth floor and described his appearance, Chief of Patrol Rodney Harrison said.
The officers went up to the fourth floor and confronted a man who fit the description and ordered him to take his hands out of his pockets, Harrison said.
The man refused, told them he had a gun, and then "took a shooting stance and pointed an object at the officers," Harrison said. An officer fired at the man three times, striking him in the hip, the chief said.
The officers called EMS, which brought the 34-year-old wounded man to a hospital. He is listed in stable condition, Harrison said.
The officer's body camera captured the incident, Harrison said. The department will review the video footage, he said.
Officers did not find a gun. Harrison said it isn't clear what the man pointed at officers.
