The NYPD is worried about terrorists using drones to carry out attacks in New York City.

Fox 5 News reports that John Miller, the NYPD's deputy commissioner of intelligence and counterterrorism, said online videos show terror groups using armed drones for attacks overseas.

Miller has suggested using some of the grant money given by the Department of Homeland Security to develop protection from drones.

Drones are illegal to fly anywhere in New York City except for five "Model Aircraft Fields" located in three outer boroughs. Officials warn anyone that sees a drone to call 911.

Several incidents involving drones happened in New York City despite the ban. In September 2017, a drone struck a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter that was in the skies over Staten Island. The collision caused damage to the fuselage and two blades.

In 2016, a New Jersey man was arrested after crashing a drone into the 40th floor of the Empire State Building.

In 2015, a drone that was being operated by a New York City schoolteacher crashed into empty seats at the U.S. Open tennis tournament in Queens. That incident caused a delay in the match while police investigated.

Also, in 2015, a man described as a Russian tourist was ticketed for flying a drone near the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
