NYC weekend events: Things to do across the Tri-State area

All weekend long enjoy a series of performances, concerts, movies, music and dance. Whether you plan on staying in or going out there are lots of things to do. 

Friday

  • Bryan Adams brings his ‘So Happy it Hurts’ tour to Madison Square Garden on Friday with special guests Joan Jett & the Blackhearts.
  • Friday night at the Beacon Theater catch rock and roll singer-songwriter, John Mellencamp. The show will be part of his Live and in Person 2023 Tour.

Saturday

  • Saturday night enjoy the New York Salsa Festival at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
  • The New York Rum Festival, hosted by TheRumLab.com, will take place on Saturday as well. Over 150 rum expressions from around the world, including rare and exotic varieties, will be available to taste and learn more about. Three tasting session times are available, with tickets starting at $88.
  • SummerStage is having its opening night with St. Paul and the Broken Bones in Central Park on Saturday for its 37th season. This is the first of 80 free shows in 13 parks across all five boroughs. For more information v
  • If you're looking to stay inside, don't miss the debut of Mary J. Blige’s ‘Real Love,’ that stars Ajiona Alexus and Da’Vinchi who fall in love (at a cost) at an HBCU in North Carolina.  Blige is executive producing two new original movies inspired by her biggest hits. Both will premiere on back-to-back Saturdays, beginning June 10 at 8 p.m.

Starting Friday, the Alvin Ailey will return to the Brooklyn Academy of Music after ten years. One of the shows will feature the works of Alvin Ailey himself, and the other will showcase a mix of Brooklyn-inspired rare and recent works.
