Fatal shooting in subway station

A 24-year-old man got off a train, saw someone he knew that he had an ongoing beef with, and launched into a fistfight, a source told Fox 5 News. The other man, who was losing the fight, then pulled out a 9mm handgun and opened fire, the source said. He then took off.

A fight turned deadly inside a Queens subway station when one man shot another on Monday afternoon.

Two men got into a dispute near the MetroCard booth on the mezzanine of the Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer station in Jamaica just before 4:30 p.m., Chief of Transit Jason Wilcox said at a brief news conference held at the station. The dispute then got physical and one man pulled out a gun and fired several shots, hitting the other man in the torso, the chief said.

A source gave FOX 5 News a few more details: a 24-year-old man got off a train, saw someone he knew that he had an ongoing beef with, and launched into a fistfight. The other man, who was losing the fight, then pulled out a 9mm handgun and opened fire, the source said. He then took off.

Police officers who responded to the shooting found the 24-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his chest, Wilcox said. They started first aid and called for EMS.

Transit chief on subway shooting

NYPD Chief of Transit Jason Wilcox said two men got into a fight at a subway station in Jamaica, Queens, on Monday. One man then fatally shot the other.

EMS rushed the man to Jamaica Hospital but it was too late to save his life. He was pronounced dead at 5:08 p.m.

The NYPD later identified the victim as Marcus Bethea of Brooklyn.

Police recovered a handgun at the station, interviewed witnesses, and obtained security camera video footage.

The shooting took place nearly two weeks after a mass shooting in a subway train in Brooklyn. Police say that a man named Frank James opened fire in a train in Sunset Park, shooting 10 people. He was caught a few days later.
