NYC man convicted of killing neighbor who mistook his home

NEW YORK (AP) - Prosecutors say a New York City man has been convicted of killing an ailing neighbor who mistook the man's home for his own.

Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth Thompson says 34-year-old Vaughan Keith was convicted Thursday of manslaughter in the 2013 death.

His lawyer's name isn't immediately available from electronic court records.

Thompson says Keith's 69-year-old neighbor, Willie Davis, had cancer and diabetes and sometimes became disoriented. Davis tried to use his key to open what was actually Keith's door, two doors away from his own.

The DA says Keith confronted Davis and repeatedly punched him, sending Davis tumbling down the stoop. He hit his head on the pavement.

Medical examiners ruled that the head injury caused Davis' death. He died five months after the confrontation.
