NYC launches mosquito-tracking website

NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - New York City has launched a new interactive website with weekly updates on its mosquito surveillance and control activities.

The map-based site is part of the city health department's three-year, $21 million initiative to keep the Zika virus from spreading.

According to the website, as of August 11, 2016, no mosquitoes with Zika have been found in New York City.

141 mosquito traps were found to have the West Nile virus, 29% lower than the last three-year average.

Last month, a baby was diagnosed with microcephaly, or a smaller than normal head, and several other brain problems.

The baby's mother was infected while in an area with ongoing Zika transmission.

More than 320 Zika cases have been reported in New York State.
