Woman charged after infant abandoned in the Bronx

A woman was arrested and charged after an infant girl was abandoned in the Bronx, the NYPD said.

A woman was arrested and charged after an infant girl was found wrapped in blankets inside a tote bag and left outside an apartment building in the Bronx, the NYPD said.

Police charged 26-year-old Delfina Galvez with reckless endangerment and abandonment of a child.

On Sunday, police responded to a 911 call just after 6 a.m. for a crying baby on Reverend James A Polite Avenue in the Longwood section. The girl was found wrapped in blankets inside the discarded bag, police said.

She was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi in stable condition, where she remained in the care of hospital staff.

"Hearing that this is even a thing is very disturbing for this neighborhood," one person told FOX 5 NY.
