NY man arrested after punching officer unconscious

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a New York man stopped for dancing in the street with a traffic cone repeatedly punched an officer until he was unconscious.

James D. Hilton was charged Saturday with assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

Attorney information for the 32-year-old Hilton wasn't immediately available. He was arraigned and held without bail.

Officials say Officer Mark Weekes first told Hilton to drop the cone when he spotted him dancing at about 2:22 a.m. Saturday. But they say moments later Weekes again stopped Hilton under a railroad bridge with the cone. That's when Hilton threw Weekes over his shoulder and punched him. Weekes is hospitalized with a skull fracture.

They say Hilton was found by a police dog in a Dumpster.
