NJ Transit derailment update

Several cars of the North Jersey Coast Line came off the track in Perth Amboy.

New Jersey Transit said train service remained suspended Wednesday in both directions on the North Jersey Coast Line between Penn Station New York and South Amboy due to a train derailment near Woodbridge Station early Tuesday morning.

Eight cars of the North Jersey Coast Line Train 3292 headed to Penn Station from Long Branch derailed in Perth Amboy at about 12:20 a.m., said agency spokesperson Jim Smith.

The derailment snarled the morning commute Tuesday. No crew or passengers were injured. An investigation was underway into what caused the derailment.

Shuttle bus service was being provided between South Amboy and Metropark for train service to and from Penn Station New York. Trains were cross-honoring with NJ Transit bus and private carriers.

Train service operated on a regular weekday schedule between South Amboy and Bay Head.
