Westchester, New York earthquake rattles homes as far as New Jersey

Seismologists from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed a 2.2 magnitude earthquake struck Friday at 1:53 a.m. a mile south of Hastings-on-Hudson.

The earthquake was just six miles deep and wasn’t felt too far away from the epicenter.

Where were tremors felt?

  • As far north as Peekskill
  • As far south as Queens
  • West into Bergen County
  • East over the Connecticut border and in the Long Island Sound

Many jumped to social media to verify their suspicions, comparing the rumble to a bomb or an explosion, while others said they slept through the whole thing.

There were no reports of any damage or injuries.
