New York City getting more pod hotels

The idea of the pod hotel originated in Japan.  Tiny, inexpensive hotel rooms were perfect for businessmen and young people.

In Manhattan, the pod concept has expanded.  Pod 51 was the first to open in the city.  The rooms aren't big but they're well appointed.

Pod 39 used to be a Salvation Army homless shelter.  The lobby is spacious and modern and has a bar and sitting area.  Rooms start at $99 a night.  They're compact but you can get a single, queen or a double bunk in a 120 square foot room.

Williamsburg Brooklyn is the latest area to get in on the micro-hotel trent.  A module pod hotel will be built in Poland and shipped to the city to be snapped into place like giant Legos.  It is scheduled to open in the spring with 250 room.
