The MTA is reportedly going to test super-long subway cars that would increase capacity.

The so-called gangway cars have articulated openings so that a rider could pass through the train without having to open the doors at the end of a car (which is against the rules).

The blog 2nd Ave. Sagas reported the MTA's revisted capital plan has funding to test 10 of the cars.

It is unclear when exactly the cars would be purchased and what line they would run on.  Any expansion of the project would be years away.

Berlin and other cities already use the gangway cars.
