MTA testing new turnstile gates to combat fare evasion
NEW YORK - The MTA is testing out a new turnstile in order to cut down on fare evasion.
The two new models were unveiled Wednesday inside Grand Central Terminal.
Both feature clear, tall doors that swing open.
The MTA also demonstrated how the alarm system works if someone tries to follow another person without paying.
A study by the MTA recently found that fare evasion cost nearly $690M last year.
