NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - New numbers from the MTA are hard to swallow for many New York City commuters.
The transit authority says subways were on-time nearly 80% this April. That’s the highest weekday on-time performance level since October 2013.
The figures also show the average weekday commuter spent 34 fewer seconds on the train and platform per trip.
That said, one in five trains on weekdays is still running more than five minutes behind schedule.
Meaning, the average New Yorker with a daily two-way subway commute is experiencing delays at least twice a week.
The MTA is also patting itself on the back for the LIRR’s performance last month.
On-time performance was just over 95% percent.
The highest level since October 2012. Last week, Gov. Andrew Cuomo made a similar announcement that train performance is getting better. But, contrary to MTA officials, the governor was hardly impressed.
“Great, it’s not enough. Clean the trains, cleaner stations, learn how to build a project or get out of the building business and let’s turn it over to a different entity,” Cuomo said.
