Mom of student found alive says he was beaten

ATLANTA (AP) — A Georgia Tech student missing for two days was found bruised and cold along downtown railroad tracks early Monday thanks to what authorities said was the persistence of his friends and schoolmates.

Atlanta police Lt. Charles Hampton described Hubert's injuries as minor, adding that he was "not sure where those injuries came from." While investigators did not find evidence of foul play, Hubert has not been coherent enough to tell detectives what happened, Hampton said.

Emma Jefferies, Hubert's former high school classmate, told WXIA-TV  that Hubert left a formal dance before disappearing. His date had left her phone in his jacket, and Jefferies and others used the "Find my iPhone" app to track down Hubert, who they found face-down on the ground.

Overnight temperatures fell into the 30s over the weekend while searchers looked for Hubert.

Hubert is vice president of Phi Delta Theta fraternity at the Georgia Institute of Technology. The school released a statement praising searchers who found Hubert.

"Thanks goes to the students for not giving up on their friend," said Tech Police Chief Rob Connolly.
