Mom of 3 rescued in blaze charged
EAST AURORA, N.Y. (AP) — A western New York woman rescued from her burning mobile home along with her three young children has been charged in connection with the blaze.
Police in the Erie County village of East Aurora have charged Kirstin Kelly, 28, with assault, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child.
Authorities say Kelly was extremely intoxicated when she fell asleep while cooking food on her gas stove Friday afternoon, igniting a fire.
Fire officials say next-door neighbor Robert Stauber rescued Kelly and her three children, ages 5, 4 and 1 month, before emergency crews arrived.
The children were treated at a Buffalo hospital for smoke inhalation and released. They're in the care of a family member.
Kelly was released from the hospital. It couldn't be determined if she has a lawyer.
