Massive fire at scrap metal yard

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (FOX 5 NY) - Huge plumes of black smoke from a massive fire at a scrap metal yard on the Jersey City waterfront could be seen for miles on Thursday evening.

Firefighters responded from land and water to the fire at Sims Metal Management on Linden Avenue East Thursday evening.

Video from SkyFOX showed the thick black smoke rising into the sky and moving northeast.

Firefighters got the fire under control in a few hours and the smoke turned white and thinned out.

The cause of the fire is not clear.
