Man jumps off building, lands on hospital oxygen tank

NEW YORK (AP) — Authorities say a man apparently jumped off a building and landed on a New York City hospital's pressurized oxygen tank, causing a leak and cutting off the oxygen supply to the hospital.

It happened around 2 a.m. Friday at Mount Sinai St. Luke's Hospital in Upper Manhattan.

Police say the 31-year-old man died. The oxygen leak has been stopped and the hospital is operating on a portable system until repairs are made.

The New York Police Department says the emergency room was evacuated as a precaution and patients there are being relocated to other rooms of the hospital. Incoming patients are being diverted to other hospitals.

The leaping man's name wasn't immediately released. Police are trying to figure out exactly where he jumped from.
