Man hit by subway train in Bronx

NEW YORK (AP) — Authorities say a subway train has hit a man in the Bronx.

Police say he was struck by a southbound No. 5 train around 8:30 p.m. Thursday. It happened at the Third Avenue and 149th Street station, near the Mott Haven neighborhood.

Firefighters have taken him to a hospital.

According to Metropolitan Transportation Authority statistics, subway trains hit an average of about 150 people a year, about 50 of them fatally.
