Man dies after getting lodged between subway car and platform

Police say 37-year-old Marcus Bryant of Brooklyn died after somehow getting lodged between a subway car and the train platform.

Authorities are investigating the death of a man who somehow got stuck between a subway train car and the platform and then fell on the tracks in Brooklyn late Wednesday night.

An MTA official disputed an earlier report from the police that the man's pants had gotten caught in the car's doors, dragging him onto the platform and then flinging him onto the tracks. That report was reportedly based on what some witnesses said.

But at a Thursday afternoon press conference, New York City Transit President Richard Davey said the agency doesn't "believe this was a door incident," such as the doors closing too quickly.

The tragedy happened at the Avenue M station in Midwood on Wednesday at about 11:53 p.m. Marcus Bryant, 37, was getting off a northbound Q train when he "was caught between the train and the platform and later fell into the pit, on the tracks, and a second train came over," Davey said.

Medics rushed Bryant to Maimonides Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The MTA said part of its investigation will determine if the victim's clothing — specifically his pants as in initial reports — may have played any role in the accident.
