Police arrest man in Grand Central subway slashing
Police say they have arrested a man after two people were slashed in the subway at Grand Central station.
NEW YORK - A 28-year-old man has been taken into custody after two people were slashed in separate attacks inside the Grand Central-42nd Street subway station on Christmas Eve, police said.
The first victim, a 42-year-old man, was attacked around 10:15 p.m. on the stairs leading to the southbound entrance of the station. The suspect allegedly slashed the man across his left wrist following an argument, according to the NYPD.
Moments later, the suspect confronted a 26-year-old woman near a turnstile. Police said the man slashed her on the neck during a second altercation.
Both victims were transported to Bellevue Hospital and are in stable condition.
Witnesses alerted nearby officers after the second attack, leading to the suspect's arrest. Police recovered a knife at the scene.
The NYPD has identified the suspect as Jason Sargeant of Brooklyn. He is facing multiple charges of assault, reckless endangerment, menacing, criminal possession of a weapon and more.
