A brand-new app is making it easier than ever to create movies on your phone. Award-winning filmmaker Andrew Jarecki developed KnowMe to help people tell richer stories by editing together the photos and videos they already have on their phone. Jarecki says he ultimately figured out the easiest way to do that: just hold your finger on a photograph and talk over it.

About a year and a half ago, Jarecki got to work putting together a team and creating the KnowMe app right here in New York City. Jarecki says he has done all of his film and television work here because, to him, New York is the center of the Universe.

KnowMe is designed to turn regular people into mini-movie makers. In the few weeks since it launched almost 100,000 people have signed on.

But it also has some Hollywood support: J.J. Abrams and Trevor Noah are backers, and celebs Greg Kinnear and Sean Hayes are users.

Jarecki thinks KnowMe has the potential to bring people together and totally change online dating. He believes if you've gotten to know somebody by seeing something about them in a KnowMe, you've sort of gotten through that initial blush of awkwardness and you've at least figured out whether it's a likely connection for you.

I'm pretty terrible with social media, so Jarecki gave me a tutorial. I made an awesome video about our visit.

You can see Andrew's even more amazing video about our visit to his offices on my Facebook page.

KnowMe is a free app available for only for iOS devices.
