Fourth of July celebrations are not complete without the Macy's Fourth of July fireworks spectacular.

The 42nd annual celebration included seven barges positioned along the East River between East 23rd Street and East 40th Street in Manhattan.

The barges launched more than 75,000 shells. Organizers said this was the biggest show in the event's history.

The public viewing sections opened at approximately 7 p.m. along the elevated portions of the FDR Drive. More than three million spectators were expected along the shores of Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn.

Entry points to the FDR Drive were at East 42nd Street, East 34th Street, and East 23rd Street. Also.

Parts of the Brooklyn and Queens waterfront offered unobstructed views of the sky over the East River.

The FDNY provided a water boat show at 7:30 p.m. The NYPD was set to conduct a helicopter flyover at about 7:45 p.m.

The show began just before 9:30 p.m.
