Long Island-Connecticut crossing?
NEW YORK (FOX 5 NEWS) - Bridge or tunnel? It's been debated for decades and even fictionalized in the Netflix hit House of Cards. But now there is a renewed effort to get a link crossing the Long Island Sound.
Long Island Association President Kevin Law supports the $5 million feasibility study about a tunnel connecting Nassau County to Westchester County. He is asking New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to see whether a bridge or tunnel from Long Island to Connecticut, the Bronx, or Westchester County is realistic.
Cuomo calls the commute one of the worst in the United States. He has support from Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy. If built, it would cut hours off the trip.
Oyster Bay to Connecticut is one of the many locations that has been seriously considered over the years. People we spoke with don't have a preference on a bridge or a tunnel but care more about the proposal itself.
The Long Island Association also wants Albany to consider port options farther east of Shoreham. Some people feel it's inevitable but will it actually be built this time? Only time will tell.
