FOX5NY (WNYW-TV) - This might be hard for you to swallow but Webster’s Dictionary has officially declared the hot dog a sandwich.
“I'm a traditional guy. A hot dog is a hot dog and it will always be a hot dog to me” one man told us.
The definition of a sandwich is 'two or more slices of bread or a split roll having a filling in between."
We went to the experts at 2nd Ave Deli on the Upper East Side where they clearly know what a sandwich is. “As far as I'm concerned, it is a sandwich, it’s between 2 pieces of bread” said Jack Lebewohl.
This declaration threw some customers for a loop. “I think a hot dog is a hot dog. it's not a sandwich at all” a customer told us.
Meanwhile, despite what Webster’s Dictionary is calling it, the great hot dog/sandwich debate doesn’t look like it’s going to die down anytime soon.
