A Hiram High School senior who was set to graduate was charged on her last day of school for bringing a gun on campus, according to deputies.

Brian Perry Belin, was taken into custody early Friday morning after deputies said the gun was discovered. He was booked into the Paulding County Jail.

Deputies said they were tipped off by one of the teen’s social media accounts Friday morning. The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office released a picture to FOX 5 Atlanta showing the post in question. A school resource deputy confronted Belin and ended up searching his vehicle, finding a handgun, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies said it was not immediately clear when or where the picture was taken.

Hiram High School’s principal released a statement which read in part

"It is unfortunate that this incident had to occur on the last day of school as students and staff are preparing for graduation and summer recess."

The graduating senior will no longer be on the schedule to participate in any school-sanctioned ceremonies, according to school officials. Belin was supposed to walk across the stage and receive his diploma Saturday morning.

The sheriff’s office said their school resource deputies are constantly monitoring social media for things like this in an effort to keep the schools safe.

Belin was charged with felony possession of a weapon on school grounds.
