Two police officers with the Roselle Park Police Department in New Jersey pulled a man to safety from a burning car on Saturday.

The dramatic ordeal was captured on camera.

Police broke a window of the vehicle engulfed in flames and found a man inside. The car was filled with thick, dark smoke.

According to police, the man had fallen asleep in his car and may have left his foot on the gas for an extended period of time. The engine likely overheated and caught fire.

The man was treated at a local hospital.

"The heroic efforts of all involved played an instrumental part in the positive outcome of this incident," said Police Chief Paul W. Morrison. "There could have been a very different and possibly tragic ending to this incident if it had not been for the quick actions of Officer Robert Harms and the heroic act of Harms and Deputy Chief Thompson in risking personal injury to protect the life of another.”
