Grief-stricken mom looks for answers after son's murder

Not only is the mother of 19-year-old Markas Vereen heartbroken over the loss of her son, now she is angry after receiving little answers as to what happened.

Just days after Markas Vereen was shot and killed, friends and family gathered Tuesday evening looking for answers.

"They didn't kill him. They executed him. That's what they did," said his mother, Tonya Evans.

Evans says her son was well liked, which was evident by the gathering Tuesday evening.

CMPD investigating homicide after vehicle crashes into Novant Health

CMPD says it was early Monday morning when Vereen was shot on Wheatley Avenue. Soon after, a car carrying him crashed near the emergency department of Presbyterian Hospital.

Vereen was pronounced dead by ER doctors. Since then, Markas' mother has had little answers.

"Nobody has come to my house, but his friends and their families. Nobody," said Evans.

Many of those friends marched throughout the day Tuesday, holding up signs asking for justice and raising awareness for their fallen friend. Tonya Evans knows she can't have her son back, but wants police to do something.

"I don't want to have justice, I don't want a little piece here. I don't want a little help there. I want 100. I want 100," said Evans.

The shooting and crash are still under investigation by CMPD. If you have any information you are asked to call Charlotte Police.
