Atlanta Police are urgently searching for the killer who shot and killed a grandmother on her way home from her job at a local homeless shelter.

Police said Beverly Jenkins, 49, was found 12:30 a.m. Sunday shot in the head just off Hopkins Street and Westview in southwest Atlanta. She was inside her green Honda Odyssey when investigators found her lifeless body.

Jenkins had just left a late shift at the City of Refuge shelter for homeless women and children when the shooting occurred. Investigators tell FOX 5, they believe she was heading towards her home two-and-a-half miles away.

Investigators have not released a motive or any possible suspects for the crime. Police tell FOX 5, they do not believe the incident is connected to another nearby high-profile homicide. On August 3,  a mile away, investigators said Rodrigo Castillo was driving along I-20 when he was shot in the head. The shots may have come from the freeway, investigators said.

"It's a huge loss for the City of Refuge and those that we serve... residents were very moved and heartbroken over the loss of Beverly," said Pastor Bruce Deel of the City of Refuge. He said her daughter also worked at the center alongside her mother to help homeless families.

Family members declined to speak on camera and said they were still reeling from shock over Jenkins' death. In a GoFundMe page, loved ones said the mother of five and grandmother of four was full of laughter and love.

The City of Refuge is also fundraising online for funeral and family expenses.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Atlanta Police or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS.
