Simone Boyce has the overview of the Underground Railroad in New York.

The Underground Railroad was not an actual railroad beneath the earth's surface. It was a secret network of people and places that facilitated the freedom of an estimated 30,000 slaves.

We take a look back at New York's two centuries of history with enslavement. We go inside a church basement in Brooklyn where slaves hid on their way to freedom.

You hear from a descendant of Frederick Douglass as well as actress Amirah Vann, who plays Miss Ernestine on the WGN America series "Undergound."
