Found: Woman believed to have been kidnapped located

HAVERTOWN, PA (WTXF) - Police have located a 31-year-old woman after they had believed she was kidnapped by a man posing as an Lyft driver.

31-year-old Brittney Lough and her sister were picked up by the man at 1200 St. James Street in Philadelphia around 4 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Lough and her sister were out celebrating her sister’s 21st birthday when they got into what they thought was an Lyft and headed home for Havertown.

On their way to Havertown, police say the driver stopped at a Sunoco on West Chester Pike and asked the younger sister to get a bottle of water since he is a diabetic.

When the younger sister got out of the car, and returned from the shop, the car and her sister were gone.

Police say the driver then drove the woman into Northwest Philadelphia and asked her for her money, phone and other valuables. She attempted to refuse, but the driver took her phone and debit card, and then was thrown out of the car on the 100 block of Champlost Street. 

She found a phone at a nearby 7-Eleven store, and called police. Philadelphia Police returned the woman to her home later Wednesday morning. 

Police say she appears to be in good health. 

Lyft released the following statement:

"The safety of the Lyft community is our top priority, and we take these allegations incredibly seriously. We have searched our system and there does not appear to be a Lyft ride matching the time, location, or vehicle description provided in these reports. We have been in touch with law enforcement and will continue to assist their investigation."
