FDNY EMT and paramedic training
NEW YORK (FOX5NY) - Few people think about the EMTs and paramedics inside the blaring ambulances that traverse New York City. But if you were in a life-and-death situation, you'd sure think about them. And you'd need them to respond in seconds.
The FDNY recently revamped its EMS simulation lab at Fort Totten, where emergency medical personnel train. We got exclusive access. Some of the instructors demonstrated a common scenario: a man couldn't breathe. They then explained how the lab -- with new 360-degree cameras, furniture and a bathroom to mimic confined spaces -- is a perfect training ground for probies. It is also a place where veteran EMTs and paramedics can refresh themselves.
About 1,000 people come through the lab for training each year.
