A Queens man faces manslaughter charges after a fatal fight in the New York City subway system.
NEW YORK - A Queens man faces manslaughter charges after a fatal brawl in the New York City subway system.
Two men were fighting on a platform at the Jackson Heights–Roosevelt Avenue/74th Street station in Queens around 5 p.m. when one of them, identified as 48-year-old Heriberto Quintana, ended up on the tracks, the NYPD said.
A Jamaica-bound F train then hit Quintana, who later died at Elmhurst Hospital.
The fight started after the two men reportedly bumped into each other. A phone then fell on the track and the two fought until Quintana ended up on the tracks and was then hit by the train.
New York City police took 50-year-old Carlos Garcia into custody. It was unclear if he pushed Quintana or if the victim simply fell onto the tracks during the brawl. They charged him with manslaughter on Tuesday afternoon.
The evening rush hour was disrupted as police set up a crime scene in the subway station.
