Fire crews from several towns remain on the scene of a four-alarm fire in a commercial building in Englewood, New Jersey following unconfirmed reports of an explosion at the location.

Large plumes of thick, black smoke spewed from the area of Bancker Street Wednesday at about 9 a.m. and could be seen in New York City.  Route 93 northbound was closed. Traffic was being detoured at Route 4 due to the fire, reported the New Jersey Department of Transportation.

SkyFox was over the scene at about 10:30 a.m. as firefighters doused the building with water through windows and over a partially-collapsed roof.  The rear of the building also appeared to have collapsed.

The building is in a commercial area of small warehouses that is near a tire store and several car dealerships. It wasn't immediately known whether anybody was in the building at the time the fire started.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
