Eiffel Tower evacuated

The Eiffel Tower in Paris was evacuated on Friday and cordoned off by police in what was an apparent precautionary move due to an unattended bag near the landmark.

People said that the evacuation was orderly and without panic.  Social media posts reported seeing a heavy police and military presence in the city.

One Twitter photo showed a bride, in her wedding dress, being turned away from the structure.

Paris has been on a heightened security alert after a series of terror attacks.
