Dramatic video shows attempted hit on alleged mobster's son

Police in the Bronx are investigating what appears to be an attempted hit on the son of a reputed mobster.  The video captured on a security camera shows the hit men making a U-turn on Tierney Place near Locus Point Drive at about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The gunman first tries to shoot the 31-year-old man from the passenger seat of the car. The victim, identified as Salvatore Zottola, then tries desperately to escape the shooter.

The gunman gets out of the vehicle and fires several times at Zottola at point-blank range striking him in the chest and hand, according to cops.

The gunman runs back into a red, four-door Nissan sedan and takes off.

The gunman is described by police as black, 5'10", and 190 lbs.  He was wearing a light-colored cap, a black-hooded sweatshirt and white sneakers.

The victim, who is expected to recover, is the son of Sylvester Zottola.  He was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center but was expected to survive the shooting.

The elder Zottola is an alleged Bonanno-family associate who was arrested last month for assaulting someone who pulled a gun on him.
