Dog attacks mother and her baby

Police on Long Island are investigating a vicious dog attack that left a woman and her baby hospitalized with various injuries.

Nassau County Police say it happened Thursday morning in Elmont.  A 37-year-old woman was carrying her 2-and-a-half month old baby boy in a car seat.  She knocked on the door of a 117th Avenue home.

The 57-year-old woman who lives there opened the door.  Police say her two Pitt bull mixes ran out of home.

One of the dogs attacked the mother and bit her leg.  The same dog bit the infant on the face and head, causing deep laceration to the mouth and left cheek, as well as puncture wounds.

During the attack, a man working in the area ran over and pulled the dog away from the victims.  He put the woman and baby in a car for safety.  The victims were taken to a hospital. Their conditions were not released.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed yet.
