NEW YORK (FOX5NY) - Long Island Rail Road commuters should expect delays during the morning rush hour following a freight train derailment west of Hicksville. MTA officials say the derailed freight cars are blocking one of the two tracks that are shared by trains on the Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson branches.
There will be no eastbound train service to Ronkonkoma, Huntington or Port Jefferson between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. Wednesday. In addition, some westbound trains may bypass Westbury and Carle Place.
Railroad crews are continuing to work around the clock to re-rail the freight cars and repair damaged track.
The freight train was carrying construction material when two of the train's 16 cars went off the track Tuesday afternoon. No injuries were reported.
