NEW YORK (FOX5NY) - A new study claims that it is now more expensive to put a baby in daycare or pay for preschool in New York than pay for in-state tuition at a four year state college.
The Economic Policy Institute, a left-leaning policy group, just released the data.
It claims that child care for a 4-year-old in the state costs $11,700 a year while care for an infant costs $14,144. The group pegs the average yearly college tuition costs at $6,892.
The group claims that infant care costs just 5.9% less than the average rent and takes up to 21.2% of a typical family's income in the state.
The group says it's even worse news if the family has two children. 17.5% of a typical family of four's income would go to child care. That is the highest of any state.
