Huracán dance studios in Corona, Queens, teaches salsa, cha cha cha and bachata. People of all ages come and they are pretty intense. Huracán opened 4 years ago. Not only will you find dancers young and not so young but also of all backgrounds.

Natasha Radic has been dancing for over a year. She was a lawyer in France, but after a visit to New York City she decided to pack her bags and move here to learn what she calls New York style salsa. She started in the beginner's class and now she does dance competitions. She has found a passion, one that makes her feel young and healthy.

A study conducted by researchers at the University of Illinois suggests dance programs catering to seniors can improve physical and mental health. A four-month dance program helped older Latino improve their overall physical activity, like walking faster, better balance, and a reduced risk for heart disease.

According to the American Heart Association, Hispanics are at a higher risk of cardiovascular diseases because of high blood pressure, obesity, and diabetes.

This type of regular physical activity has shown to reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes.

You get a real workout no matter if you are in the advance or the beginner's class like myself. I can see why many opt do come here instead of going to a gym.
