NEW YORK (AP) — Prosecutors say an up-and-coming rapper is accused of taking a homemade knife from his girlfriend while behind bars at a New York City jail.
Bronx prosecutors say Thursday Ackquille Pollard, who performs under the name Bobby Shmurda, has been indicted on perjury, weapons possession and promoting prison contraband charges.
They allege the 20-year-old received the sharp metal object from his girlfriend while in jail.
He was being held at Rikers Island after a roundup of suspects in a series of gang-related shootings and drug trafficking in New York City.
His girlfriend, Kimberly Rosseau, was also arrested.
Prosecutors say the perjury charges allege Pollard lied to a grand jury about the incident.
Attempts to reach Pollard's attorney were not successful. Rosseau's lawyer did not immediately return a message seeking comment.
