NEW YORK (FOX 5 NEWS) - The scales of justice are swinging against an alleged lizard thief.
Suffolk County cops arrested Anisa Escobar, 46, of Mount Sinai, on Friday, authorities said.
Back on August 23, a woman and two children came to Selmer's Pet Land in Huntington Station. The woman cut open the top screen of a habitat, grabbed four bearded dragons, and left the store without paying, police said. The lizards were worth $1,100.
Police examined security camera footage and released an image of the woman. Police got numerous tips from the public and eventually identified Escobar as a suspect.
Authorities charged Escobar with fourth-degree grand larceny and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
