Police say a New York mayor stole state road signs to give to his local government.
The new York State Police say that Frank M. Moracco, 60, stole 111 road signs belonging to the state Department of Transportation since July 2015.
Moracco was charged Monday with official misconduct and petit larceny. Both charges are class A misdemeanors. Investigators say Moracco works as a sign shop foreman for the DOT. He's accused of stealing the signs and giving them to the Herkimer County village of Frankfort.
Village clerk Karlee Tamburro tells The Observer-Dispatch that Moracco will continue to serve as mayor and the Mohawk Valley village isn't commenting on the charges. Moracco couldn't be reached at his office.
He's due in court on May 3 at 6 p.m..
